Overview
Status Tab
The Status tab presents staus information collated across all of your site's databases. Information presented includes:
Messages
The message area is reserved for general informational messages. The monitoring system heartbeat message is displayed here to indicate that the DBAppraise monitoring agents are properly running on your site as of the indicated time. This status is updated hourly.
Backup Status
The date and time of the last backup of each database is shown here. If the last backup for a given database is more than a user defined age (by default 26 hours) it will be shown as "STALE" and highlighted in red.
Warm Spare Status
If your site has one or more warm spare databases configured this area will display their readiness status. This is updated hourly. Warm spare databases that have not received updates for a predetermined time (usually one hour), but which are otherwise available, are considered "STALE" and highlighted in red.
Alerts
Any alerts, alarms or pages that have been generated for any of your databases by DBAppraise are consolidated and shown here. This area is cleared nightly.
Log File Exceptions
Log file messages that are considered "unusual" or "interesting" are shown here. This area is cleared nightly.
Metrics
Metrics are displayed for a particular selected database and a specific date. You must select the database, metric, date and chart type from the options to the left. Reporting relevant to the selected database and date is available in the report links at the bottom left. Metrics are updated nightly.
The Database and Metrics dropdowns are multi-select capable. Multiple databases are displayed in columns, metrics in rows allowing for easy comparison of a matrix of related data.
Database Dropdown
Select the database that you wish to display metrics for from the dropdown list. For sites that have multiple databases on a single server operating system data is available by selecting the server name rather than the database name.
Metric Dropdown
Select the metrics that you wish to see charts for.
Calendar
The default date is yesterday (because historical metrics are refreshed overnight the most recent data is yesterday's data). Use the calendar to select other dates if so desired.
Daily/Monthly/Annual/Eternity
By default a chart for a specific date will be sown. Many trends are easier to see over a longer time period. Use the Monthly, Annual and Eternity options to view longer timeframes.
Scaling
When displaying multiple databases or metrics it is often helpful to scale the charts.
Chart
The chart shows a date/time scale along the x-axis and the measured metric along the y-axis.
The green line is the average (mean) for the selected metric taken over the prior 30 days from 9am to 5pm on weekdays. The red line is 2 standard deviations from the mean. Generally speaking metrics that stay within these two lines can be considered "in control".
Reports
Metric Summary
Summarizes metrics over the past 30 days in two sections. The left hand section is "business hours" -- that is 9-5 on weekdays. The right hand side is all hours.
Minimum, maximum, average (mean) and standard deviation are shown. At the far right the base and limit values for the y-axis on the charts above is displayed.
Storage Area Status
Shows detailed information regarding storage area configration and space allocation. The top section of the report lists any storage areas that are filling up to the point where they may need expansion.
Storage Area Trend
Shows storage area space allocation trends over the previous 60 days and projects likely growth using current, average and worst case growth trends.
Predicts days until full based on the worst case analysis.
Table IO Statistics
Displays record Create, Read, Update and Delete activity on a per table basis.
Info Center Tab
Contacts centralizes contact and escalation information for DBAppraise issues.
